Penis size: What is a small penis?
Have you ever caught yourself measuring your penis? Or at least wondering how big it is?
If you have, don’t worry – this is absolutely normal. Every man has at least once in his life tried to know how big his penis is.
Penis size has always been a concern for men. This concern is imposed on boys, to whom a small penis is a synonym of shame and low self-esteem, while boys with bigger penises are admired.

In most cases the dissatisfaction does not come from a complaint from the partner, but from men themselves who want to have a bigger penis.
Some men wish to have a larger penis due to the influence played by the media, magazines, and erotic films.
All because of wrong comparisons that ignore the normal dimensions of a penis.
Another fact is the sexist idea that still prevails among men that their sexual performance depends on a large penis.
Myth about the penis: Small penises cannot give pleasure.
This is not true, due to the fact that the penis, when measuring as little as 7 cm when erect, is already enough to give pleasure to the partner.
The vagina is sensitive only on its entrance, in the first 3 cm.
We also have to consider the couple’s pleasure, the foreplay beforehand, the atmosphere, the environment, the involvement, the partner’s skill and the affection, which are all very important.
Today, due to the knowledge that science has brought us, we know that small penises can also give pleasure to women.
The vast majority of men who seek medical help with the complaint of having a small penis actually have an average-sized organ.

What is the average penis size?
A research study was carried out by the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland, assessing the average penis size of men in several countries.
This study showed that the largest penises on the planet are in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with an average of 18cm in length.
In 2014, researchers published findings from a study involving over 1,600 males in the United States.
In this study, the average dimensions for an erect penis were 14.2 cm (5.6 in) in length and 12.2 cm (4.8 in) in circumference.
According to studies, the penis of the average Brazilian man presents, when erect, a length of around 13 to 14 cm.
Penis size divisions: Length type
- Micropenis: less than 5 cm
- Very small penis: between 6 and 9 cm
- Small penis: between 10 and 11 cm
- Average penis: between 12 and 17 cm
- Large penis: more than 18 cm
It is easy to know the exact length of your penis, but for this you need to always measure it when erect, that is, when the penis is hard.
You will have to measure the length from the base of the penis all the way to the glans.
Leaning the tape measure or a ruler against the pubic bone, you go towards the tip, at the head of the penis.
In order to measure the thickness, you should wrap the measuring tape around the base of the penis and identify the value found in centimeters.
Childhood trauma
Some parents provoke psychological trauma in their children when they compare their children’s penises to those of other boys of the same age.
If you are a parent, avoid comparing your child’s penis to other children’s. He will have his, just like you have yours and each penis has its own size.
Comparisons are not healthy in most cases.
For overweight boys, body fat may influence the perception of the penis
Another frequent concern of parents, especially those of overweight boys, is the thought that their child has a penis that is too small.
There is no reason to worry though.
Most overweight boys have a tendency to accumulate fat in the pubic region, which gives the impression that the penis is “hidden”, or too small.
Such occurrence does not mean that the boy has a micropenis.
Most of these cases improve as the boy reaches puberty, in adolescence, thanks to better fat distribution.
Before you think about penis enlargement procedures
Surgical procedures to increase the size of the penis may be indicated, but only in particular situations.
These would be the cases where a surgical procedure might be recommended:
- micropenis,
- several other urological diseases such as epispadias,
- severe cases of hypospadias,
- significant retractions resulting from Peyronie’s disease,
- or due to partial amputations due to cancer.
For a normal size penis, the idea of enlarging the penis as an aesthetic procedure should be seen as an experimental technique.
A reminder for those who have read this article so far:
Penis enlargement procedures for aesthetic/cosmetic purposes are not recommended by the scientific medical community, nor by the Brazilian Society of Urology.
